ICT INTEGRATION AT LRSS

Problem Statement: There are some teachers who are unwilling or unable to integrate ICT into their lesson plans. Advantages of using ICT:

1. ICT caters to diversity in learning styles

2. Allows for the creation of the 21st century classroom

3. Students can develop 21st century skills

4.Students are comfortable and competent with the technology

Solutions:

1. Skills assessment for teachers to determine levels of competency

2. Provide training where necessary

3. Mentoring by HODs and teachers who are more proficient

4. Principals and VPs to provide support and motivation

5. Monitoring of the implementation of ICT integration

Possible problems that may arise:

1. Teachers who may still be reluctant to get on board

2. Network cannot support the volume of wireless traffic

3. Security issues.



ADMINISTRATION'S PLAN FOR ICT INFUSION IN DELIVERY OF CURRICULUM AT LRSS

Introduction

a. ICT will be used to transform the education system in order to prepare students to meet the needs of the changing social and economic environment.

b. ICT is all technologies used for the handling and communication of information and their use, specifically in education.

c. The goals and aspirations are:

To enhance the learning environment of the students.

To develop 21st Century skills

Equality of access to ICT

To raise student achievement

Facilitate collaboration


ICT Development Level

a. LRSS is at an introductory level

b. We are at an intermediate level re use of ICT in school & curriculum processes ( student data, External examination reg., staff & student share, text book rental)

c. Web-based systems & e-mail are used to an extremely limited extent


ICT Integration Components for Implementation

Preparing the school to accept technology:

a.Develop an ICT Policy Document

b.Training of staff

c. Orientation/Sensitization Programme for parents

d. Identify a safe and secure location for storage of ICT equipment

e. Create a system for daily distribution and collection of ICT equipment

Possible challenges/ solutions:

a. Providing secure storage

Solution: Seek the assistance of the PTA and LSB

Principals through their Association to make representation to the MOE for more effective security

b. Time constraints for training of staff

More training required for HODs (trainers)

Solution: Use vacation period for training (Give compensatory time as an incentive)


Strategies used to ensure operation of technology:

a. Additional ICT Technician needed

c. Designated repair room

d. Improvement in the software of the internet provider/Access a more reliable provider

e. Include in policy guidelines for maintenance and incidental repairs


Benefits of ICT Integration:

a. Equips students with 21st Century skills

b. Enhances teachers' abilities to more effectively deliver the curriculum

c. More efficient school administration

d. Students, Parents and Teachers receive information in real time

e. Improves communication/collaboration among stakeholders


Monitoring ICT Integration Plan:

a. ICT Policy Document

b. Strategies eg. clinical supervision

c. Create a check list (classroom observation)

d. Establish a committee (SMT)

e. Hold regular review meetings/departmental reflections
